Little Rascalz Soccer Try-Outs

A Little Rascalz Soccer coach came to Stroller Strides in search of new talent for their fall program. Josie was hesitant at first ("I'll just roll the ball" instead of kick it), but got into it once she got her "grass legs." Bubbles helped, too.

Skill: sitting on a ball

Did you know rhythmic gymnastics was a soccer skill?

"I whip my ribbon back and forth!"

Check out that spiral!

"I whip my ribbon back and forth, I whip my ribbon back and forth.."

"I whip my ..."

Fave part: Soccer ball ice cream cone!

At the conclusion of try outs Coach Jessica concluded that Josie's skills were about right for the 2 1/2 to 4 year-olds soccer class. Put me in, coach!

Rozzie, You Can Drive My Car

Roslyn has been terrorizing the neighborhood in the (what used to be exclusively Josie's) Bobby Car. One day Mama walked into the kitchen and beheld this sight:

You!
Young Roz had never taken an interest in the Bobby Car before so it was quite a surprise that she was able to hop on all by herself.

Proud much?

"Get on the friggin sidewalk!"

Her left foot is flat on the ground because her right leg only partially hooked over.

Beep beep, beep beep yeah!

Always the dare devil, Roslyn will often stand up on the car. One day Mama told her not to stand on the car so she sat down on the steering wheel.

Thankfully Rozzie's ability to dismount is catching up with her climbing prowess.

"Dude! Check me out!"

She likes to bounce at the knees from this position as one would do before a back dive.

Trouble!

Some Updates

The merriment continues for the Joh(a)ns(e/o)n clan! Roslyn has been anxious to feel the wind in her teeth since she laid eyes on her watermelon helmet. JP got a second Yepp seat and added it to the back of Annie's Schwinn. Annie didn't feel very stable with her precious cargo raising the center of gravity. For the family's first adventure Annie rode the long bike with Josie and JP rode with Schwinn with Roslyn. Later JP added both seats to the long bike so now both kids ride with Dad.
Whoa, nelly!

Mama can often be seen at the park coaxing her daughters down the slide. Here's a secret: Mama is terrified of the slide, too!
Note the look of terror
After the park the family went to El Zarape to refuel with some margaritas and Mexican eatin'.
"Maybe I just have taste buds all over my face. Have you ever thought of that?"

"Tally ho!"
Josie is finally staying in bed at bedtime thanks to some external motivators. Not only does she receive a sweet treat (currently she enjoys "Cherry Lovers", big heart-shaped jelly beans) she also gets to pick an activity to do the next day such as a craft or baking with Mama. In the photo above she is holding the gecko bead craft that Dad helped her make made for her.

Josie and Roslyn are starting to develop a very sweet relationship. They love to send each other into giggle fits. Josie likes to share with Roslyn on her own terms and has been known to scream when Roslyn merely looks at a toy Josie is playing with.

The family traveled to Kentucky for the annual Johnson Family Reunion just in time for record-smashing high temperatures. All of JP's siblings and their respective kids were present for the first time in three years.

On the last day in Kentucky Josie was treated to a visit to the dollar store after having earned all her stars for a week. She stayed in bed at night and took every single nap on vacation. Whatta gal! She was torn between a glow stick, a pizza cutter, glitter glue, and a bird pen, but wound up getting a Flag of America Flag.

The family arrived back in San Diego in time to go to an Independence Day party at Paul and Jeanne's house. Josie and Roslyn were stylin'.

Yankee Doodle Dandies

The following pictures are a not so chronologically ordered assortment of random silly fun.

Josie says adios to her friend Charlotte with a trip to a farm. Them chickens are serious birds.

Roz really loved Josie's birthday beads, but they had to be archived since Josie often pulled at them while still attached to Rozzie's neck.

Josie loves drawing on her easel daily. She makes the niftiest things.

Mama is often heard saying to Roslyn "What are you doing?" and "How did you get up there?" Roz is an accomplished climber, but as of yet not a walker.

Josie wouldn't climb these stairs at Peppergrove Park until she was close to age two.

Play Doh ... Doh!
A friend of the family left high school early to become a professional ballerina. Josie loved Lauren's Bon Voyage party as she loves most parties. She played ball with a group of older kids for before plucking up an insect and terrifying the group by chasing them with the bug. Mama and Daddy were so proud!

Love hurts!
Josie and Roz each had a round of fevers in early June and one month later developed classic Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Many rectal temperatures were taken so Josie was pretty sure she had a good idea of how it is done.

Sissers

Roslyn's self-feeding method is not ideal. She often has food beyond the brow line and in her hair.
Roz has become quite communicative in the last month. She signs milk, yummy, nap, dad, eat, more, bird, all done, please, water, music, help, and elephant. Her spoken words are:
  • Mama ("mamamamama...")
  • Daddy ("dad")
  • Grammy ("ghee")
  • Grandpa Bob ("bababa")
  • Ball ("bow")
  • Book ("buh")
  • Help ("hop")
  • Baby ("beebee")
  • Josie ("keekee")
  • That ("dat")
  • Water ("wahr")
  • Hat ("At")
  • Cat
  • Duckie ("duck", "duckee", "ducko")
"Boooow!!"

The best craft: makin' a mess all over the place.
