A grand Christmas was had by all in the Joh(a)ns(e/o)n family. Now that Josie has started consolidating memories she was able to look forward to the holidays for weeks in advance. In early December she began requesting, "I want to go to Christmas (pronounced "Quissamiss") now!" For her first Christmas Roslyn attracted lots of attention in her Santy Claus hat and sweater. Since attention is her favorite gift right now, all her Christmas wishes were answered.
Josie went through a rough patch in early December where she was not earning her weekly stars. To encourage success Mama made a daily goal: "Earn all four stars for the day and we'll go to the park or zoo the next day." Once she got a taste of success, she kept on a roll and wore a shiny path between home and the zoo.
The San Diego Zoo has its Jungle Bells holiday celebration each year with lights and entertainment. Last year Josie could hardly be kept from attacking all the lights. This year The Jumpin' Jammin' Elves were far and away her favorite.
At the end of each show all the kids got sparkly, red noses. It's pretty hard not to look adorable with a sparkly, red nose.
Josie and Roz had their first round of Christmas at home in San Diego before flying off to Pennsylvania for more presents and merriment.
The day before our flight to Pennsylvania Roslyn woke up with a sad, bleeding diaper rash. She was pretty miserable during changing time, but happy otherwise.
Josie and Rozzie spent their holiday with everyone in Mama's direct family including her grandparents, human cousins, dog cousins, uncles, and aunts.
When the family arrived at Grammy and Grandpa Bob's house, there was no snow and the weather was balmy for Northwestern Pennsylvania in the upper 40's. By the time Josie and Roz were packed up to fly back to San Diego the temperature had dipped to 5 degrees F.
Josie didn't like the cold and snow much at first but was much more thrilled about it once she discovered snow angels and snow men.
For some reason Josie liked to make pretend toast with butter, peanut butter, and, by rubbing her wooden toast on the bottom of the rocking horse, horse feet.
Somewhere in between balmy and biting the snow was at the perfect temperature for constructing a snow menagerie. Josie's favorite part was spraying the snow green.
Josie and Mama celebrated a raucous Happy Noon Year on December 31!

Later on Daddy, Mama, Grandpa Bob, Grammy, Roz, and Josie warmed up with a couple brews at the Edinboro Hotel Bar.
Grandpa Bob adores cooking muffins for Josie and watching her gobble them up. This time around he made pumpkin muffins.

On the last night up on the hill Daddy taught Josie:
- how to make snow angels
- "don't eat the yellow snow."

Whereas Josie couldn't put food to mouth until close to nine months, Roswell is already pretty handy at grabbing Cheerios in a pincer grip and getting them in her mouth.
Of course no trip through PIT is complete without a photo with Pittsburgh royalty, Franco Harris.
